Cảm giác cô đơn đã gia tăng kể từ đại dịch COVID-19 và tác động tiêu cực đến sức khỏe tâm thần. Nghiên cứu này đã xem xét mối quan hệ giữa cảm giác cô đơn và sức khỏe tâm thần ở người lớn bằng cách sử dụng một nền tảng sức khỏe tâm thần kỹ thuật số. Một mẫu có chủ đích gồm 919 người tham gia (tỉ lệ phản hồi 97%) mới được đăng ký trên nền tảng đã hoàn thành một cuộc khảo sát về cảm giác cô đơn, trầm cảm, lo âu, sự thể chất, căng thẳng, hỗ trợ xã hội và các bệnh đi kèm ở thời điểm bắt đầu và trong 3 tháng. Sự tham gia vào nền tảng đã được theo dõi trong thời gian này. Cảm giác cô đơn tại thời điểm bắt đầu liên quan đến mức độ trầm cảm, lo âu và căng thẳng cao hơn và mức độ thể chất và hỗ trợ xã hội thấp hơn (giá trị p < 0.001). Tỉ lệ người tham gia cảm thấy cô đơn giảm xuống tại lần theo dõi (từ 57.6% xuống 52.9%, p = 0.03). Những người cải thiện cảm giác cô đơn cũng có sự cải thiện về triệu chứng sức khỏe tâm thần, sự thể chất và hỗ trợ xã hội (giá trị p < 0.001).
