The ongoing financial crisis has had a dramatic impact on how the Federal Reserve conducts monetary policy. In this paper I outline how the Federal Reserve implements monetary policy during “ordinary” circumstances, and compare and contrast this with how it has implemented policy in the wake of the crisis, especially in the latter part of 2008.
