Một phân nhóm của các tế bào máu CD4+CD11c−CD3− gần đây đã được chỉ ra là phát triển thành tế bào dendritic khi nuôi cấy trong môi trường điều kiện từ tế bào đơn nhân. Tại đây, chúng tôi chứng minh rằng các tế bào CD4+ CD11c−CD3−, được tách ra từ amidan, tương ứng với các tế bào T plasmacytoid, một loại tế bào ít được biết đến mà đã lâu được các nhà bệnh học quan sát thấy trong các mô lympho thứ cấp. Chúng biểu hiện CD45RA, nhưng không có các dấu hiệu đặc trưng cho các loại tế bào có nguồn gốc từ lympho hoặc tủy xương đã biết. Chúng trải qua quá trình apoptosis nhanh chóng trong nuôi cấy, trừ khi được cứu sống bằng IL-3. Việc thêm CD40-ligand sẽ dẫn đến sự biệt hóa của chúng thành các tế bào dendritic biểu hiện mức độ thấp của các kháng nguyên myeloid CD13 và CD33.
