Sự phổ biến ngày càng tăng của Web Ngữ nghĩa đã thúc đẩy việc áp dụng rộng rãi các Logic Miêu tả (DLs) để mô hình hóa các miền thế giới thực. Để hỗ trợ việc phát tán của DLs, một số lượng lớn các thuật toán suy luận đã được phát triển. Thường thì các thuật toán này được triển khai bằng các ngôn ngữ lập trình quy trình như Java hoặc C++. Hầu hết các trình suy luận tận dụng thuật toán tableau, vốn có tính không xác định, điều này không dễ dàng được quản lý bởi các ngôn ngữ này. Prolog quản lý trực tiếp tính không xác định, do đó là ứng viên tốt để xử lý các quy tắc mở rộng không xác định của tableau.
