Perineurioma được định nghĩa là các tổn thương u của dây thần kinh ngoại vi, phát sinh từ sự tăng sinh tế bào bao ngoài thần kinh và có thể liên quan đến các bất thường trên nhiễm sắc thể 22. Ba năm sau khi tiêm procain vào tĩnh mạch khuỷu gây đau, một người đàn ông 33 tuổi đã phát triển tổn thương dây thần kinh giữa, ban đầu được chẩn đoán là hội chứng ống cổ tay. Các triệu chứng tiến triển mặc dù đã thực hiện phẫu thuật thích hợp. Đánh giá lại lâm sàng và điện sinh lý đã phát hiện một khối hình thoi ở phần trên cánh tay, được xác nhận bằng MRI. Các nghiên cứu hóa mô miễn dịch đã phân loại khối u là perineurioma hỗn hợp và neuroma. Perineurioma hỗn hợp với neuroma có thể do chấn thương trước đó hoặc tác động cytotoxic của procain.
