Nghiên cứu này điều tra tổ chức cấu trúc não bằng hình ảnh khuếch tán tensor (DTI) ở 35 cá nhân dương tính với HIV và 35 cá nhân âm tính với HIV. Chúng tôi đã sử dụng các chỉ số lý thuyết đồ thị toàn cầu và điểm nút để điều tra xem HIV có liên quan đến sự khác biệt trong tổ chức mạng lưới não dựa trên độ hướng phần trăm (FA) và độ khuếch tán trung bình (MD) hay không. Những người tham gia cũng hoàn thành một bộ các bài kiểm tra tâm lý thần kinh toàn diện. Trên toàn bộ mẫu, hiệu suất nhận thức có tương quan nghịch với chiều dài đường đi đặc trưng và có tương quan dương với hiệu quả toàn cầu cho FA. Những kết quả này cho thấy rằng, bất chấp việc quản lý bằng liệu pháp kháng virus kết hợp, nhiễm HIV có liên quan đến sự thay đổi trong phân tách mạng lưới não cấu trúc và tính trung tâm của thalamus và rằng số lượng tế bào CD4 thấp nhất có thể là một yếu tố nguy cơ.
