Chiến lược, nhà chiến lược và ảo tưởng: một góc nhìn cấu trúc đối thoại

Mục đích của bài báo này là đóng góp một góc nhìn cấu trúc vào các tranh luận trong tài liệu về chiến lược liên quan đến cách mà các nhà quản lý thực hiện công việc chiến lược. Các tác giả dựa trên quan sát rằng ảo tưởng đóng vai trò trung tâm trong công việc chiến lược và nhằm vào việc tập trung vào cách mà những ảo tưởng về bản thân và người khác hoạt động trong công việc xác định danh tính của các bên tham gia trong quá trình phát triển chiến lược.
Nghiên cứu này trình bày một phương pháp suy diễn dựa trên sự quan sát tham gia kéo dài trong hai tổ chức khác nhau. Mỗi sự tham gia kéo dài khoảng ba năm và phân tích được dựa trên dữ liệu thu thập được trong các cuộc họp, hội thảo, nhóm tập trung, phỏng vấn và các bối cảnh không chính thức khác.
Bài báo trình bày bốn loại ảo tưởng khác nhau, được quan sát trong tập dữ liệu. Những ảo tưởng này được gán nhãn: sự kết hợp hữu ích; cuộc chạy đua vũ trang; kẻ lạc quan vĩnh cửu và thương nhân của sự diệt vong. Ngoài ra, còn có đề xuất rằng có ba khía cạnh hữu ích có thể được sử dụng để khai thác cách thức mà ảo tưởng hoạt động. Đây là việc đóng vai và đảm nhận vai; địa điểm tạm thời và giá trị liên quan; mối quan hệ giữa ảo tưởng và chứng cứ.
