Viêm màng ngoài tim mủ thường biểu hiện như một bệnh cấp tính với sự tham gia lan tỏa của toàn bộ màng ngoài tim, nhưng trong một số trường hợp hiếm, có thể xuất hiện dưới dạng tràn dịch khu trú.
