Cá goby tròn (Neogobius melanostomus) lần đầu tiên được phát hiện ở Vịnh Gdansk vào năm 1990. Loài cá Ponto-Caspian này rất có thể đã được đưa vào môi trường Baltic từ nước dằn của tàu. Trong những năm đầu của quá trình xâm lấn, sự gia tăng dân số diễn ra chậm ở những khu vực đầu tiên bị xâm chiếm.
