Tóm tắt

Past studies have reported high comorbidity of specific learning disorder (SLD) among school-aged children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, specific approaches designed to enhance academic progress and academic experiences for ASD children with SLD are still lagging due to various reasons. Most SLD research involving ASD populations have focused on reading disorders (RD). The purpose of this paper is to explore the current educational, clinical, and research issues surrounding SLD in children with ASD. A critical narrative review was carried out to explore issues and future directions surrounding the DSM-5 specific learning disorder (SLD) among school-aged children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The available research and its applications, particularly on the prevalence, comorbidities, possible factors and mechanisms, assessment and diagnostics, and treatments and interventions were examined. Specific current issues and implications for future work in the area were addressed.
