Bài báo này đánh giá những tiến bộ gần đây trong tài liệu kinh tế học không gian. Nó phục vụ như một phần giới thiệu cho bộ sưu tập các bài báo mới về phân tích dữ liệu kinh tế học không gian được tập hợp trong số đặc biệt này, cụ thể là những mở rộng mới về góc nhìn mô hình kinh tế học không gian. Mặc dù sự phát triển ban đầu của lĩnh vực kinh tế học không gian diễn ra khá chậm chạp, cách mạng Dixit-Stiglitz và sự xuất hiện của Địa lý Kinh tế Mới đã đóng vai trò quan trọng trong việc nâng cao tầm quan trọng và việc sử dụng các kỹ thuật phân tích dữ liệu không gian.
