Some applications of a linearized kinetic model with correct prandtl number

Some typical one-dimensional problems of kinetic theory of nonuniform gases are investigated by means of a new linearized model of the Boltzmann equation. This model allows the Prandtl number to assume any chosen value. Besides, it is shown that the solutions for the Kramers problem, the Couette flow and the Poiseuille flow can be obtained from the corresponding solutions with the Bhatnagar, Gross and Krook model by means of simple algebraic manipulations. The corrections introduced by the new model are small but interesting.
