Nuôi cấy mô thực vật đã trở thành một trong những công cụ cơ bản trong nghiên cứu khoa học thực vật. Nó được áp dụng rộng rãi trong việc sản xuất, bảo tồn và cải thiện nguồn tài nguyên thực vật. Sự hiện diện của biến dị soma trong các quần thể được hình thành từ nuôi cấy mô đang ảnh hưởng tiêu cực đến việc sử dụng nuôi cấy mô và vẫn là một vấn đề lớn. Ngược lại, nó là một nguồn gốc của các dòng/biến thể mới mong muốn với các đặc tính nông nghiệp tốt hơn. Trong bài đánh giá này, chúng tôi tóm tắt các nguyên nhân có thể, phương pháp phát hiện và tính mong muốn của các biến thể. Biến dị soma là một trong những chủ đề được nghiên cứu và đánh giá nhiều nhất. Vì vậy, chúng tôi đã giới hạn bản thân trong việc phác thảo các ví dụ khác nhau có thể được sử dụng làm tài liệu tham khảo quan trọng cho các nhà nghiên cứu có ý định xác định và/hoặc phân loại các biến thể soma khi sử dụng nuôi cấy mô cho nghiên cứu và sản xuất.
