Chất tạo chelate 2-[2-(5-bromoquinolinylazo)]-5-diethylaminophenol (5-Br-QADEAP) đã được tổng hợp. Một phương pháp đã được phát triển để xác định đồng thời vanadi, niobi và tantali dưới dạng chelate kim loại-5-Br-QADEAP bằng cách sử dụng sắc ký lỏng hiệu năng cao với cột nhanh kết hợp với kỹ thuật làm giàu trực tuyến. Vanadi, niobi và tantali được biến đổi tiền cột với 5-Br-QADEAP để tạo thành các chelate có màu. Các chelate được tách ra trên một cột phân tích nhanh 4.6 × 10 mm, 1.8 µm với pha rắn acetonitrile-nước (50:50, v/v) chứa đệm phosphate pH 4.5 và 0.01 mol L−1 citrate làm pha rửa. Các chelate đã được tách hoàn toàn trong vòng 2.5 phút. Giới hạn phát hiện (S/N = 3) của vanadi, niobi và tantali lần lượt là 1.6, 1.6 và 1.8 ng L−1. Phương pháp này đã được áp dụng để xác định vanadi, niobi và tantali trong thép hợp kim, nước và mẫu địa chất với kết quả tốt.
