Sự phân tách chọn lọc uranium bằng axit bis(2,4,4-trimethylpentyl)phosphinic trong xylene và C8mimNTf2 đã được nghiên cứu. Đối với hệ thống dựa trên dung dịch ion, động kinetics chiết xuất chậm hơn với cơ chế trao đổi ion chiếm ưu thế thông qua [UO2(NO3)·2L]+, trong khi đối với hệ thống dựa trên xylene thì là cơ chế hòa tan. Tính chất của các loài đã thu được được phát hiện là khác nhau trong cả hai môi trường như được quan sát trong nghiên cứu phát quang. Hệ thống dựa trên dung dịch ion cho thấy khả năng chịu bức xạ cao hơn so với dung môi phân tử. Na2CO3 đã được sử dụng thành công để tách ra. Sự lựa chọn đã được nghiên cứu thông qua việc xử lý chất thải mô phỏng mức độ cao xuất phát từ lò phản ứng nước nén.
