Scattering of alpha-particles by55Mn
Tóm tắt
The elastic and inelastic scattering of 50 MeV alpha-particles by55Mn has been measured. The angular distributions of the scattered alphas from several excited levels were analyzed by means of the distorted-wave Born approximation. Transition strengths were determined for most of the levels observed. The energy resolution was sufficiently good to permit separation of the first excited state (0.126 MeV) from the elastic peak. Two single states previously observed in alpha scattering were each resolved into two states (2.25 and 2.37 MeV, probable transitionl=2; 4.27 and 4.39 MeV, probable transitionl=3).

It has been noticed previously that the sum of the strengths of excitation of members of a multiplet often agrees well with the strength of the corresponding transition in the adjacent even-even nuclei, even through the coupling is clearly quite strong and even though the strengths for individual members of the multiplet fail to follow the weak-coupling (2J+1) rule (e.g. 63Cu (B.
