Các tác động tích cực của adiponectin và mối tương quan tiêu cực giữa nó với chỉ số khối cơ thể (BMI) đã được mô tả rõ ràng. Mức độ adiponectin trong huyết thanh bị thay đổi trong các rối loạn ăn uống như chứng biếng ăn (anorexia nervosa), chứng ăn uống thái quá (bulimia nervosa) hoặc ăn uống vô độ. Trong nghiên cứu này, chúng tôi đã kiểm tra giả thuyết rằng (1) mức độ adiponectin trong huyết thanh tương quan với các yếu tố hành vi ăn uống của con người và (2) rằng các biến thể di truyền của vùng ADIPOQ ảnh hưởng đến cả mức độ trong huyết thanh và hành vi ăn uống. Chúng tôi đã phân tích 11 SNP trong vùng ADIPOQ và trong 5' UTR và đo mức độ adiponectin trong huyết thanh của 1.036 cá nhân từ quần thể Sorbs của Đức. Phiên bản tiếng Đức của bảng hỏi về ba yếu tố ăn uống (FEV) đã được 548 Sorbs hoàn thành. Để xác nhận, chúng tôi đã bao gồm một nhóm xác nhận độc lập từ Đức (N = 350).
