Tác dụng giảm đau của châm cứu được biết đến liên quan đến các dây thần kinh afferent chính (PANs) thông qua vai trò của chúng trong việc truyền tín hiệu đến hệ thần kinh trung ương (CNS). Bằng cách ghi nhận đơn vị trên chuột, chúng tôi đã đặc trưng hóa sự phát sinh và truyền tín hiệu điện trong các sợi Aβ và Aδ được kích thích bởi các tác nhân giống như châm cứu. Các tín hiệu giống như châm cứu được khởi phát trong PANs bằng ba kỹ thuật: châm cứu thủ công (MAc), châm cứu mô phỏng (EAc), và kích thích điện-châm cứu (EA) giống như kích thích điện ngoại vi (PES).
