Reliability of Age Statistics: A Probabilistic Approach
Tóm tắt
Self-reported information is often biased. There are only a few measures to examine self-reported data. The majority of these methods are based on assumptions, and these assumptions are subject to validation. The present study explores the widely used techniques to examine the reliability of age. A new method, ‘Probability Index (PI)’, is introduced to examine age statistics using a probabilistic approach. Results obtained by PI are compared with these well-known methods for measuring age errors. The proposed method yielded almost same result and direction of errors as per with the other widely used techniques for measuring age errors. Moreover, it can be applied to almost all patterns of digit preferences. The proposed method is free from assumptions, easy to understand and flexible for further mathematical treatment.
