Để cải thiện kết quả lâu dài của các liệu pháp tâm lý, điều quan trọng là phải biết tại sao một số người luôn duy trì trọng lượng cơ thể khỏe mạnh trong khi những người khác gặp khó khăn trong việc giảm cân hoặc duy trì cân nặng. Nghiên cứu này nhằm xác định các yếu tố tâm lý liên quan đến việc duy trì hoặc lấy lại cân nặng đã giảm và xác định các đặc điểm tâm lý của những cá nhân có chỉ số khối cơ thể (BMI) khác nhau. 282 người tham gia trưởng thành đã trả lời các bảng hỏi đo lường hành vi ăn uống, niềm tin phi lý chung và cụ thể, cùng với sự tự tin bản thân.
