Mạng lưới giám sát của Pháp, REseau BENThique (REBENT), được Bộ Môi trường thành lập vào năm 2003 sau sự cố tràn dầu Erika vào năm 1999. REBENT nhằm mục đích thu thập kiến thức cơ bản về phân bố các môi trường sinh thái đáy ven biển, đặc biệt tập trung vào sự đa dạng sinh học. Nghiên cứu này đã phân tích dữ liệu từ 38 điểm đáy biển ở vùng đáy dưới nước được thu thập bởi một nhóm các nhà sinh vật biển chuyên nghiệp dọc theo bờ biển Brittany từ năm 2004 đến 2010. Tại mỗi điểm, các giới hạn độ sâu của vành đai tảo được xác định trong khoảng từ 0 đến −40m Tọa độ Đồ thị (CD); thành phần và độ phong phú của thực vật và động vật được lấy mẫu ở độ sâu −3 và −8m CD. Tổng cộng có 364 taxa (156 thực vật và 208 động vật), thuộc 12 ngành, đã được xác định. Kết quả cho thấy giới hạn độ sâu và mật độ của các bãi tảo bẹ gia tăng khi độ đục của nước giảm; hơn nữa, một số thay đổi trong cấu trúc cộng đồng có thể liên quan đến độ đục và nhiệt độ nước. Do đó, vùng bắc và nam Brittany thể hiện sự khác biệt mạnh mẽ về sự đa dạng và cấu trúc của các loài tảo bẹ chủ yếu (Laminaria hyperborea và Saccorhiza polyschides). Kết quả từ khảo sát thành phần môi trường tảo bẹ này (các loài tảo bẹ chủ yếu và các loài chỉ thị) cung cấp thông tin quan trọng cho các đánh giá áp lực địa phương, như sự gia tăng độ đục. Dữ liệu cũng cung cấp một tài liệu tham khảo có thể hữu ích cho việc phát hiện các thay đổi trong nhiệt độ nước ven biển do biến đổi khí hậu.
