Fifty cases of congenital ptosis have been analyzed in respect of refraction, amblyopia and strabism. In 72% of the eyes ammetropia was diagnosed. Strabism and amblyopia were detected in 58% and 46% of the cases, respectively. In 19 from 21 cases amblyopia resulted not only from ptosis but also from ammetropia and anisometropia. Amblyopia was caused exclusively by ptosis in 2 cases only. On the basis of the data obtained ptosis surgery and its optimal time are discussed.
