Các gốc cacbonat được tạo ra bởi quá trình quang phân H2O2 ở bước sóng 313 nm trong dung dịch natri bicarbonat (pH 8,3) hoặc cacbonat (pH 11,6) đã phản ứng với các dẫn xuất anilin nhân thay thế. Những phản ứng nhanh đặc biệt (các hằng số tốc độ bậc hai từ 5 × 108 đến 2 × 109) đã được quan sát với các anilin mang nhóm thay thế cho electron, trên vòng hoặc tại nguyên tử nitơ. Các kết quả cho thấy rằng các gốc cacbonat có thể đóng vai trò quan trọng trong việc loại bỏ một số amine thơm khỏi môi trường nước, đặc biệt là trong các nguồn nước giàu cacbonat.
