Tóm tắt

A quantum-mechanical description of the electrostatic properties (potential, force, surface charge density, polarization and electric field) induced by a point charge in an infinite-plate capacitor is given in the model based on elementary excitations at solid-vacuum interfaces. A complete solution of the problem in the long-wavelength (continuum) limit is obtained and compared with similar results for a point charge in front of a single slab. Possible extensions to include dynamical and retardation effects and other surface geometries are discussed, and the connection with other quantum-mechanical theories is pointed out.
