Các polymer sinh học thân thiện với môi trường, polyhydroxybutyrate, đã được sản xuất bởi nhiều loại vi khuẩn và có ứng dụng quan trọng nhất trong ngành công nghiệp đóng gói thực phẩm cũng như trong lĩnh vực y tế. Trong công trình này, việc sản xuất PHB đã được tối ưu hóa thông qua việc cải thiện các thành phần dinh dưỡng. Các nguồn carbon và nitơ ưa thích được chọn để nâng cao sản xuất PHB là nước mía và amoni sunfat. Tốc độ sản xuất tương đối đã được nghiên cứu bằng cách hiểu các tương tác phức tạp của các biến số thông qua thiết kế composite trung tâm tập trung. Quá trình lên men chìm với Acinetobacter nosocomialis RR20 đã sản xuất được năng suất PHB là 7,82 g/L dưới điều kiện tối ưu với sự gia tăng giá trị đáng kể gấp tám lần so với môi trường muối tối thiểu, và các kết quả này cho thấy môi trường được thiết kế có ý nghĩa trong việc tăng cường sản xuất PHB.
