Thời tiền sử và sinh thái học con người ở Đông Polynesia: Khảo sát tại Ổ đá Tangatatau, Mangaia, Quần đảo Cook

Ổ đá Tangatatau (địa điểm MAN-44, Mangaia, Quần đảo Cook) đã sản sinh ra một trong những chuỗi hệ thống niên đại và phân tầng nghệ thuật toàn diện nhất của Đông Polynesia liên quan đến di vật, động vật có xương và không xương, cùng với các mẫu thực vật. Hai mùa khai quật đã phơi bày 29 m2 trong tổng số diện tích sàn được ước tính là 225 m2. Một bộ sưu tập gồm 30 xác định tuổi bằng đồng vị carbon cho thấy việc con người sử dụng ổ đá kéo dài từ khoảng năm 1000 đến 1700 sau Công nguyên. Bài báo này phác thảo các xu hướng tạm thời chính trong các bộ sưu tập di vật, động vật, và thực vật cổ sinh học thu thập được từ địa điểm, đồng thời thảo luận về những điểm này liên quan đến sự phát triển của xã hội Mangaian cổ điển, một minh chứng cho các hình thức trưởng tộc ‘Mở’ của Polynesia.
