Bài báo này nhằm mục đích nghiên cứu sự thay đổi pha, động lực phản ứng, tính chất cơ học và co ngót khi khô của xỉ được kích hoạt bằng natri cacbonat thông qua việc bổ sung natri sunfat vào chất kích hoạt. Kết quả cho thấy rằng quá trình phản ứng trước hết chịu sự chi phối của các anion CO3 2−, và sau đó diễn ra tương tự như phản ứng kích hoạt bằng natri sunfat. Ngoài ra, pha tương đối không ổn định gaylussite, thường được tìm thấy trong kích hoạt natri cacbonat, không được quan sát thấy trong các sản phẩm phản ứng sau kích hoạt hỗn hợp, và monosulfoaluminate được xác định thay vì ettringite, có thể là kết quả của tỷ lệ aluminate so với sulfate giảm và giá trị pH tăng lên. Co ngót khi khô giảm đáng kể lên tới 41% khi thay thế 50 wt% natri cacbonat bằng natri sunfat, có thể chủ yếu do sự thay đổi pha được gây ra.
