Để chống lại các tác động xấu đến môi trường từ việc đốt nhiên liệu hóa thạch để sản xuất điện và bảo tồn nhiên liệu cho các mục đích chiến lược, các nguồn năng lượng mới, sạch và tái tạo đang được khai thác để sản xuất điện. Nghiên cứu này trình bày phân tích kinh tế-kỹ thuật của một nhà máy năng lượng mặt trời quang điện (PV) hòa lưới nhằm đáp ứng một phần nhu cầu tiêu thụ năng lượng của người dân làng Kuttiady ở Kerala, Ấn Độ. Nhà máy PV với công suất lắp đặt 2315.5 kW được xác định là khả thi cho làng và có thể sản xuất 3878.3 MWh năng lượng hàng năm trong khi nhu cầu là 4044.86 MWh với hệ số công suất nhà máy là 19.1% và chi phí năng lượng là 290.73 $/MWh. Hiệu suất của nhà máy PV được đề xuất, được đo bằng lợi suất cuối (4.59 h), lợi suất tham chiếu (5.64 h) và tỉ lệ hiệu suất (82%), tương đương hoặc thậm chí cao hơn nhiều nhà máy tương tự ở Ấn Độ và các nước khác. Phân tích độ nhạy kinh tế cũng được thực hiện bằng cách thay đổi lãi suất, tỷ lệ chiết khấu và tỷ lệ lạm phát để kiểm tra ảnh hưởng của chúng đến chi phí năng lượng, tỉ lệ lợi ích-chi phí và thời gian hoàn vốn. Khi lãi suất và tỷ lệ chiết khấu giảm, chi phí năng lượng và thời gian hoàn vốn cũng giảm trong khi tỷ lệ lợi ích-chi phí tăng lên. Nhà máy được đề xuất có thể giúp tránh khoảng 785 tấn khí nhà kính xâm nhập vào khí quyển địa phương của làng Kuttiady.
