Chăm sóc sức khỏe tâm thần cho bà mẹ là một lĩnh vực bị bỏ quên tại các quốc gia thu nhập thấp và trung bình (LAMIC) như Nam Phi, nơi mà ưu tiên trong chăm sóc sức khỏe bà mẹ và trẻ em thường tập trung vào việc giảm tỷ lệ tử vong mẹ và trẻ sơ sinh cũng như cải thiện sức khỏe thể chất của trẻ.
