Việc sử dụng thuốc lá điện tử trong giới trẻ đã gia tăng trong thập kỷ qua. Tuy nhiên, còn ít hiểu biết về nhận thức và việc sử dụng thuốc lá điện tử ở Việt Nam, đặc biệt là trong độ tuổi thanh niên. Nghiên cứu này xem xét những nhận thức và việc sử dụng thuốc lá điện tử của người trẻ trưởng thành tại Việt Nam. Nghiên cứu dựa trên dữ liệu từ một cuộc khảo sát về tiêu dùng thuốc lá của người lớn ở cấp tỉnh vào năm 2020, được Quỹ Kiểm Soát Thuốc Lá Việt Nam - Bộ Y tế tài trợ và quản lý. Dữ liệu được thu thập từ 34 tỉnh và thành phố trên toàn quốc và được quản lý bằng phần mềm REDCap. Cuộc khảo sát đã thu hút 80,166 người tham gia, trong đó có 9,478 người trẻ trưởng thành trong độ tuổi từ 15-24 đã được lựa chọn và báo cáo trong bài viết này. Kết quả cho thấy, tại thời điểm khảo sát, 2.4% trong số người trẻ trưởng thành Việt Nam đang sử dụng thuốc lá điện tử. Nhiều người tham gia khảo sát đã đưa ra hơn một lý do cho việc sử dụng thuốc lá điện tử. Những lý do này bao gồm sở thích về hương vị thuốc lá điện tử (64.0%), không thích mùi của các loại thuốc lá khác (46.2%), bắt chước theo thành viên trong gia đình (44.9%), và tin rằng thuốc lá điện tử ít gây rủi ro cho sức khỏe hơn (39.1%). Gần một nửa số người dùng thuốc lá điện tử muốn từ bỏ (48%). Việc sử dụng thuốc lá điện tử có liên quan đến nam giới sống ở các khu vực đô thị và nhận thức về Luật Phòng Chống Tác Hại Của Thuốc Lá. Những phát hiện từ nghiên cứu này cung cấp dữ liệu chứng minh hỗ trợ cho các chính sách y tế công cộng nhằm giảm và ngừng sử dụng thuốc lá điện tử trong giới trẻ.
