Để nghiên cứu hành vi oxy hóa của một hợp kim siêu bền dựa trên nickel với hàm lượng hafnium cao (1.34wt%), nghiên cứu này đã thực hiện các thử nghiệm oxy hóa đẳng nhiệt ở 900, 1000 và 1100°C trong thời gian lên đến 200 giờ. X-ray diffraction và phân tích vi thể điện tử với quang phổ tia X phân tán năng lượng đã được áp dụng để nghiên cứu hành vi oxy hóa. Sự tăng cân nặng của hợp kim nickel có Hf cao thể hiện một đường cong giống như parabol, và không có sự bong tróc nào của lớp oxit được quan sát trong suốt các thử nghiệm oxy hóa. Hợp kim đã cho thấy khả năng chống oxy hóa xuất sắc, và không có HfO2 nào được quan sát trong lớp oxit ở 900°C. Khi nhiệt độ oxy hóa tăng lên 1000°C, các hạt HfO2 được hình thành trong các pha spinel của lớp oxit, và HfO2 hình “móc câu” đã được quan sát bên trong và bên dưới lớp Al2O3 sau 200 giờ.
