Gen yếu tố phiên mã chủ chốt PdPapERF109 đã được tách chiết từ giống Populus davidiana × P. alba var. pyramidalis (Pdpap), và sau khi thực hiện quá biểu hiện gen PdPapERF109 trên các thực thể biến nạp, chức năng của gen trong phản ứng kháng lại sự nhiễm trùng của Fusarium oxysporum đã được xác định. So với giống Pdpap hoang dã, sau khi nhiễm với F. oxysporum, các đặc điểm sinh lý và sinh hóa, bao gồm trọng lượng tươi tương đối, hoạt tính peroxidase và tỷ lệ rò rỉ điện giải cho thấy rằng, sau khi quá biểu hiện gen PdPapERF109, các thực thể biến nạp phát triển tốt và thể hiện khả năng kháng bệnh rõ rệt đối với sự nhiễm trùng của F. oxysporum. Khi so sánh khả năng quét oxide hóa phản ứng của cây Pdpap sau khi nhiễm bệnh, các cây quá biểu hiện PdPapERF109 có khả năng quét oxide hóa phản ứng tốt hơn đáng kể so với các cây hoang dã. Phân tích tổng hợp về hình thái học của cây và các tham số sinh lý, sinh hóa khác cho thấy việc quá biểu hiện gen PdpapERF109 đã cải thiện đáng kể khả năng kháng chịu bệnh của cây Pdpap đối với thối rễ do F. oxysporum. Do đó, việc tăng cường biểu hiện của gen ERF109 đồng nhất có thể là một chiến lược hiệu quả để nâng cao khả năng kháng bệnh trong giống poplar lai.
