Pulmonary vascular resistance after repair of arterial pressure, require 20 or more years to produce pulmonary vascular disease. Thus, despite complete repair of the defect, varying degrees of increased pulmonary vascular resistance persist in atrial septal defects in patients with pulmonary hypertension.
