On the relationship between statistical mass spectrum andS-matrix eigenphases

We have two separate objects to count; on one side the masses entering into the statistical-mechanics mass spectrum, on the other side the eigenvalues of theS-matrix, which under certain circumstances can be approximated by resonances. In this paper we discuss the connection existing between these two types of counting.
