Tóm tắt

Theλφ 4 theory in 3+1 dimensions is often claimed to be trivial; that is, either free or inconsistent. Here, the theory is studied in a simple variational approach, which confirms that for any positiveλ Bare the theory is indeed sick. However, proper renormalization actually requiresλ Bare to be negative infinitesimal. This apparently leads to a viable, non-trivial theory.
