Với sự gia tăng tỉ lệ mắc bệnh ung thư và tỷ lệ sống sót liên quan, các bác sĩ trẻ ngày càng tham gia nhiều hơn vào việc quản lý bệnh nhân ung thư. Một chương trình giảng dạy ung thư toàn diện đã được phát triển và áp dụng tại các trường y ở Úc. Tuy nhiên, chương trình này không được thiết kế để chỉ ra cách thức mà sinh viên y khoa nên được dạy, và liệu nội dung chương trình có chuyển thành kiến thức và năng lực hay không phụ thuộc vào cách thực hiện. Chúng tôi đã tiến hành một cuộc tổng quan tài liệu từ các cơ sở dữ liệu PubMed, Embase và Cochrane để xác định và tóm tắt các bằng chứng cho những cách tiếp cận mới trong việc truyền đạt chương trình giảng dạy ung thư cấp đại học. Nhiều phương pháp hiệu quả đã được phát triển trong các lĩnh vực phòng ngừa, khám lâm sàng thông qua mô phỏng, đội ngũ đa ngành, tâm lý học ung thư, chăm sóc giảm nhẹ và thậm chí là nghiên cứu. Có một sự chú trọng ngày càng tăng vào một cách tiếp cận toàn diện và đa ngành trong giáo dục ung thư, mặc dù việc tiếp xúc trực tiếp lâm sàng và tương tác với bệnh nhân ung thư vẫn rất quan trọng. Các trường y cũng có vai trò chưa được công nhận trong việc thúc đẩy hành vi sức khỏe tích cực nếu các sinh viên tốt nghiệp của họ muốn truyền đạt những biện pháp phòng ngừa này đến với bệnh nhân của họ. Việc áp dụng những phương pháp như vậy phụ thuộc vào các bác sĩ lâm sàng và các nhà giáo dục y khoa để xem xét tính khả thi và sự liên quan của việc thực hiện cụ thể trong bối cảnh địa phương của họ.
