Bài viết báo cáo một trường hợp phẫu thuật mở lồng ngực được thực hiện trong bệnh viện, kèm theo hồi sức tim phổi ngay tại lồng ngực cho một bệnh nhân bị đa chấn thương. Phẫu thuật mở lồng ngực khẩn cấp là những can thiệp hiếm gặp trong những tình huống khó khăn. Việc chỉ định phẫu thuật thường là một quyết định bên lề. Kết hợp với việc giảm thể tích tuần hoàn, chẳng hạn như việc kẹp động mạch chủ, phẫu thuật mở lồng ngực kèm theo xoa bóp tim trực tiếp nhằm duy trì lưu thông máu trong các tuần hoàn mạch vành và tuần hoàn não quan trọng, giảm thiểu tổn thất máu từ các nguồn chảy máu ở xa và khắc phục các nguyên nhân có thể đảo ngược.
