Hiệu suất sử dụng nitơ (NUE) ban đầu được định nghĩa là năng suất khô per đơn vị N được hấp thụ từ đất. Thuật ngữ này sau đó được định nghĩa lại là sản phẩm của năng suất nitơ (NP) và thời gian lưu trú trung bình của nitơ (MRT).
