Virus lùn bụi mâm xôi (RBDV) đã được phát hiện trong ba loài host mới thuộc chi Rubus, bao gồm mâm xôi Bắc cực (R. arcticus ssp. arcticus), mâm xôi Bắc cực Alaska (R. arcticus ssp. stellatus) và giống lai của chúng (R. arcticus L. nothosubsp. stellarcticus G. Larsson). Virus này đã được xác định là RBDV qua các triệu chứng xuất hiện trong các cây thử nghiệm Chenopodium quinoa và C. amaranticolor, qua hồ sơ lắng đọng trong gradient mật độ sucrose, qua mẫu RNA trong điện di gel agarose, qua phân tích protein của virus tinh khiết trong điện di gel polyacrylamide SDS, và qua kỹ thuật Western blot. Tình trạng cây bị nhiễm RBDV trong các bãi thử nghiệm là rất cao. Sự hiện diện của virus trong mâm xôi Bắc cực không phải lúc nào cũng gây ra triệu chứng trên lá. Tuy nhiên, tình trạng lá úa vàng xung quanh gân trung tâm và gân bên thường xuyên được quan sát thấy, đặc biệt vào mùa xuân và mùa thu.
