Nghiên cứu về tính tiến bộ của hệ thống an sinh xã hội thường không tính đến sự khác biệt về tỷ lệ tử vong giữa các nhóm kinh tế xã hội. Đối với Hà Lan, những khác biệt này dẫn đến sự chênh lệch về tuổi thọ giữa những người có trình độ học vấn thấp hơn và những người có trình độ học vấn cao hơn khoảng 4,5 năm. Về phương diện cuộc sống, điều này gây ra tổn thất ròng khoảng Dfl. 90,000 cho nhóm có trình độ học vấn thấp hơn so với nhóm có trình độ học vấn cao hơn.
