Tóm tắtTrong những năm gần đây, việc khủng bố trực tuyến đã nhận được sự quan tâm ngày càng tăng từ các nhà nghiên cứu và hoạch định chính sách, chẳng hạn, bằng cách phân tích giao tiếp trực tuyến của các nhóm cực đoan và kết nối nó với các con đường cá nhân và tập thể của việc khủng bố thành chủ nghĩa cực đoan bạo lực. Nhưng những nỗ lực này thường tập trung vào các cá nhân hoặc nhóm cực đoan như là nguồn phát tin nhắn khích động, trong khi nghiên cứu thực nghiệm về người nhận thì còn khan hiếm. Kết quả cho thấy rằng những người tham gia cánh hữu nhìn nhận các meme trong nhóm (cổ vũ, bạo lực) một cách tích cực hơn và các thông điệp về sự tương đồng tổng quát một cách tiêu cực hơn nhiều so với nhóm đối chứng. Ngoài ra, những người tham gia cánh hữu và những người tham gia nhóm đối chứng có mức độ ủng hộ cao cho bạo lực đã chú ý đến các đầu mối hình ảnh liên quan đến bạo lực (ví dụ: vũ khí), sự khác biệt, và các nhóm cánh hữu (ví dụ: ký hiệu rune), bất kể thông điệp tổng thể của meme. Những phát hiện này chỉ ra các tác động của việc tiếp xúc có chọn lọc và có ý nghĩa đối với việc thiết kế và phân phối các thông điệp chống khủng bố và các câu chuyện đối kháng để tối ưu hóa hiệu quả của việc ngăn chặn khủng bố trực tuyến.
