Sử dụng các mồi đặc hiệu dựa trên operon ribosome, đã thu được sự khuếch đại DNA dương tính từ phổi của 11/215 động vật nhỏ sống dưới đất và dưới nước được thử nghiệm, bao gồm các mẫu đông lạnh (n = 4) và mẫu đã cố định bằng formalin trong parafin (n = 7). Loài chính được phát hiện tại châu Âu ở chuột, rái cá và chuột sống ven sông là Emmonsia crescens. Hai chủng từ rái cá và chồn phải là Blastomyces parvus. Hai con wombat ở Australia cho thấy sự hiện diện của một loài chưa được biết đến của chi địa sinh Emmonsiellopsis.
