Tỷ lệ tử vong vào mùa hè của ngọc trai Thái Bình Dương Crassostrea gigas là kết quả của một tương tác phức tạp giữa ngọc trai, môi trường của chúng và các tác nhân gây bệnh. Di truyền dường như là một yếu tố chính quyết định độ nhạy của ngọc trai đối với tỷ lệ tử vong vào mùa hè, cho phép sản xuất các dòng kháng (R) và nhạy cảm (S). Chúng tôi đã tiến hành lập hồ sơ biểu hiện toàn bộ gen của các tuyến sinh dục R và S trong khoảng thời gian 3 tháng trước khi xảy ra sự kiện tử vong vào mùa hè, sử dụng một microarray cDNA mà chúng tôi đã thiết kế. Phân tích ANOVA cho thấy 34 gen có biểu hiện khác biệt giữa các dòng R và S tại bốn thời điểm trước khi xảy ra sự kiện tử vong. Việc chú thích một số gen này nổi bật lên các con đường sinh sản và sự phân bổ của nó cũng như các hệ thống phòng vệ chống oxy hóa như là những con đường chính hoạt động khác biệt giữa các dòng R và S. Phân tích phiên mã này cung cấp các chỉ dẫn mới để xác định các dấu hiệu cho tìm kiếm loci đặc điểm số lượng và các nghiên cứu chức năng, cũng như đánh giá vai trò tiềm năng của từng gen trong khả năng chống chọi với tỷ lệ tử vong mùa hè.
