Urol Oncol. 2015;33:17–23. doi: 10.1016/j.urolonc.2015.01.020 . This study determined risk factors for urethral recurrence in female ONB. Only a positive final urethral margin predicted urethral recurrence, not bladder trigone or lymph node involvement, supporting the safety of ONB in females.

Eur Urol. 2015;68:644–71. doi: 10.1016/j.eururo.2015.05.015 . This prospective study found that nerve-sparing and uterus preservation were associated with improved continence outcomes. They performed pre and post-operative UPP studies and determined continent patients post-operatively had a longer functional urethral length, urethral closing pressure at rest, and a higher pre-operative urethral closing pressure at rest, compared to incontinent patients.

The authors found a lack of trigonal/bladder floor tumor, palpable posterior mass, and clinical lymphadenopathy was associated with the absence of pelvic organ involvement.

This series represents one of the longest follow-ups for female OBS with internal genital preservation and demonstrates durable and satisfactory oncologic and functional outcomes, albeit in a small population.

Ann Surg Oncol. 2014;21:1398–404. doi: 10.1245/s10434-013-3458-8 . This study followed females after radical cystectomy with ONB with validated patient-reported health related quality of life questionnaires and concluded that ONB provided long term satisfaction and maintained quality of life. As well, they found age >65 years at the time of surgery to be the only predictor of post-operative urinary incontinence.

In their report, bulking agents, PVS, and TOS had relatively poor success in the treatment of incontinence.
