Kiefergelenkfortsatzfrakturen – Indikationen und Kontraindikationen der konservativen Behandlung

Unterkieferfrakturen zählen zu den häufigsten Gesichtsschädelverletzungen und insbesondere der Gelenkfortsatz stellt eine Prädilektionsstelle dar. Die Frage nach der bestmöglichen Behandlung dieser Frakturen gibt bis heute Anlass zur Diskussion. Während kindliche Frakturen in der überwiegenden Mehrheit der Fälle konservativ behandelt werden, gehen die Meinungen bei erwachsenen Patienten auseinander. In dieser Übersichtsarbeit werden basierend auf der aktuellen Datenlage verschiedene Kriterien für die Entscheidungsfindung zwischen konservativer und operativer Therapie erörtert sowie die Vor- und Nachteile der jeweiligen Behandlung aufgezeigt. Zudem werden mögliche posttherapeutische Verläufe anhand von Patientenbeispielen demonstriert. Das Verständnis der komplexen Einflussfaktoren ermöglicht die Auswahl des individuell besten Konzepts und die optimale Beratung des Patienten.
