Thời gian qua, cân bằng canxi đóng vai trò trung tâm, thiết yếu trong sinh lý và bệnh lý. Bài viết này tập trung vào tầm quan trọng của canxi và vitamin D đối với xương trong thực tiễn lâm sàng hàng ngày. Trong bối cảnh thiếu hụt vitamin D đang ở mức độ dịch tễ tại Đức và số lượng bệnh nhân mắc phải rối loạn hấp thu canxi do thuốc ngày càng tăng, điều quan trọng là cần biết rằng mức Serum 25-OH-D3 > 30 μg/l là điều kiện cần thiết để đảm bảo khoáng hóa xương bình thường, và ngoài ra, sản xuất axit dạ dày sinh lý cũng là điều kiện thiết yếu cho việc hấp thu canxi không bị cản trở. Do đó, việc tuân thủ các hướng dẫn về việc bổ sung vitamin D và canxi là một điều kiện tiên quyết cho mọi liệu pháp điều trị liên quan đến xương, không chỉ với bệnh nhân thấp khớp.
