Trên toàn thế giới, điều kiện sống chiếm khoảng 50–75% nguy cơ ung thư. Đối với một số lượng ngày càng tăng của các khối u ác tính, việc thiếu vận động bên cạnh béo phì và dinh dưỡng không hợp lý có ý nghĩa quan trọng. Các yếu tố tăng trưởng giống insulin (IGF) là liên kết giữa béo phì, thiếu vận động và ung thư. Chúng có thể chịu trách nhiệm cho sự phát triển của sự kháng trị với liệu pháp nội tiết. Việc tác động đến chuyển hóa glucose và insulin phát triển như một chiến lược mới và bổ sung chống lại sự sinh trưởng của tế bào ác tính.
