Mặc dù việc giữ các mục trong trí nhớ làm việc đã được chứng minh là cải thiện khả năng hồi tưởng dài hạn đã bị trì hoãn, các cơ chế dưới đây mối quan hệ này vẫn chưa rõ ràng. Nghiên cứu hiện tại nhằm khám phá mối quan hệ giữa khả năng sáng tạo của một cá nhân và mối quan hệ giữa củng cố trí nhớ làm việc và trí nhớ dài hạn. Trong Thí nghiệm 1, các tham gia viên đã hoàn thành một nhiệm vụ xác định kích thích mà thao tác nhu cầu củng cố và sau đó là một nhiệm vụ công nhận trì hoãn bất ngờ và các phép đo về sáng tạo khách quan và tự báo cáo. Trong khi điểm số sáng tạo có liên quan đến hiệu suất tổng thể trong các nhiệm vụ trí nhớ, tác động này không liên quan đến củng cố trí nhớ làm việc. Trong Thí nghiệm 2, các tham gia viên được đưa vào trạng thái sáng tạo hoặc không sáng tạo trước khi hoàn thành các nhiệm vụ xác định kích thích và công nhận trì hoãn. Hiệu suất trong các nhiệm vụ này không khác biệt đáng kể giữa các nhóm và cũng không liên quan đến củng cố trí nhớ làm việc. Kết quả của hai thí nghiệm này gợi ý rằng khả năng sáng tạo không liên quan đến cơ chế tiềm ẩn hiệu ứng của củng cố trí nhớ làm việc đối với công nhận trì hoãn.
