Các tổ chức phi lợi nhuận và phi chính phủ (NGOs) có thể đóng vai trò quan trọng trong việc hỗ trợ và thúc đẩy các dự án phát triển cộng đồng, cải thiện phúc lợi của cộng đồng. Nghiên cứu này sử dụng khuôn khổ lý thuyết do các lý thuyết thể chế cung cấp để đánh giá các cấu trúc giá trị và ý thức hệ cạnh tranh mà nhiều bên liên quan giữ trong một chương trình phát triển quốc tế tại khu vực nông thôn Lào. Các phát hiện cho thấy những căng thẳng tiềm ẩn phát sinh giữa các bên liên quan, bổ sung vào tài liệu lý thuyết về lý thuyết thể chế trong các hợp tác quốc tế, và thảo luận về các tác động thực tiễn đối với các NGO và phát triển cộng đồng nhằm đảm bảo sự thành công của các dự án.
