Một phương pháp kết hợp giữa xác định gamma độ phân giải cao và khối phổ ion hóa nhiệt mà không cần tách hóa học đã được áp dụng để xác định lượng plutonium (Pu) trong các dung dịch Pu thuần khiết và dung dịch hỗn hợp U–Pu được thu thập tại nhà máy tái chế Rokkasho, Nhật Bản. Sự thiên lệch tương đối của các kết quả xác định Pu bằng phương pháp kết hợp so với phương pháp IDMS truyền thống là dưới 0.01% trong các dung dịch Pu thuần khiết và hỗn hợp U–Pu. Phương pháp kết hợp này có thể được sử dụng như một phương pháp nhanh thay thế cho việc xác định Pu, hỗ trợ cho phương pháp IDMS truyền thống và phương pháp đo mật độ K-edge mà không bị mất độ chính xác và độ tin cậy.
